14, 1998, in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born in Duluth on Dec. 4, 1917, to Henry and Anna
(Miller) Casmir. Lois was a 1935 Central High School graduate. Mrs. Birk was
employed with the University of Minnesota-Duluth as manager of the Second
Edition Book Store, retiring in 1983 after 25 years of service. Lois also
volunteered for many years recording and reading for the Blind Radio Station. Lois was a member of Temple Israel and a member of Temple
Sisterhood. She is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years,
Harold Birk, who died in 1971; a sister, Ethel Lurie; and brothers, George
Casmir and Sammy Casmir. Survivors include her sons; Marty (Sally) of San
Francisco, Alan (Randi) of Minneapolis, and Tom of Santa Monica, Calif.;
grandchildren Justin, Adam, and Joann; and many close friends. Service: 1 p.m. Sunday in Temple Israel. There will be no
visitation. Burial in Temple Emanuel Cemetery. Family prefers memorials to
Temple Israel, UMD Theater Department, or Crohn and Colitis Foundation of
